Three big benefits

There are three distinct differences and many small ones to our new generation of electric terminal tractors for you to benefit from:

  1. Charge times reduced. Our first big change has been to incorporate a DC FastChargeTM System, which has allowed us to decrease our charge time significantly.
  2. Electric motor. The second is that we have eliminated the transmission from the driveline, moving to a direct drive solution where the electric motor is powering the drive axle, reducing the complexity of the driveline.
  3. Ability to operate in extreme temperatures. Thirdly, we have included an Active Thermal Management System, which will allow your electric terminal tractor to operate optimally at full power in extreme temperatures. The system keeps your core battery temperature between 77-86˚F for optimal performance even when the temperature outside gets down to -22˚F or up to 122˚F.

When all brought together you have the Kalmar Ottawa T2 EV Electric Terminal Tractor which can be charged quickly and easily, will operate optimally in extreme weather conditions, is easier to service and maintain.

Modular by design

Batteries and chargers are a big part of your overall investment in your electrically powered yard  truck  making it critical that you get a solution that is matched to your operational requirements, which is why Kalmar has taken a modular approach to our battery and charging solutions. 

There are different charging solutions available with charging capacities up to 150kW and three different Li-ion battery capacities to choose from.

Managing your power

Kalmar’s Battery Monitoring System continually monitors the voltage, temperature, coolant and current flow of your battery solution to ensure that it operates optimally over its lifetime. This system also controls the charging of the batteries by utilizing regenerative breaking, sending recovered energy back into the battery packs making sure you are using the power available as efficiently as possible.

Building on the success of it’s S-Series internal combustion models, CLARK Material Handling will soon ad to the line-up it’s first S-Series Electric model.

The SE15-25T 3-Wheel model will complement the internal combustion models with many of the features that make the S-Series line-up SMART, STRONG and SAFE.

The SE15-25T, with capacities up to 5,000lbs. electric will be built at CLARK’s Lexington, KY manufacturing facility and a few of the advancements will include:

CLARK’s new WPL40, a 4,000lb. capacity, Lithium Ion powered electric pallet jack

FEATURES

PIN-WHEELING

With the handle in the fully upright position, the WPL40 pin-wheels in and out of tight spaces using a smaller, tighter turn-radius and moves up to 4,000 lbs in close-quarters with ease.

HYDRAULICS

The permanent magnet DC pump motor and chrome-plated lifting cylinder provides for smooth and efficient lifting, as well as greater durability.

BRAKES

The electromagnetic brake, mounted on the motor armature shaft, multiplies the braking power through the transmission and provides good stopping power when the control tiller is raised to the full vertical position or lowered to full horizontal position beyond the operating range. Additionally, the armature-mounted brake design:

  • Keeps the braking mechanism clear from dirt and debris
  • Automatically engages the parking brake when the truck stops and the handle is released
  • Features an anti-rollback and neutral braking system for improved safety in operation

ERGONOMIC STEER/CONTROL HANDLE

With travel, lift and lower functions all located in an ergonomic operator handle, operators can access all controls without having to lift a hand from the handle. Additionally, the WPL40 control-handle includes:

  • A solid steel tubing control tiller arm and control handles meant to outlast cast aluminum or plastic designs
  • Angled control handle grips allowing easy operation with either hand
  • An emergency reversing switch, thumb control, and horn — all standard
  • The low-mounted tiller arm supports minimum steering effort for greater operator comfort
  • The gas-assisted spring gently returns the control tiller arm to a vertical position
  • Crawl speed switch enables the operator greater-ease-of-use in tight spaces

FORK DESIGN WITH TAPERED TIPS

The WPL40’s fork construction and pallet entry slide system, which allows a lifting of the forks up-and-over the bottom board, provides easy pallet access. The forks, at 27” OAW x 46.0 OAL, can achieve a maximum elevation of over 7.5”. The shape of the load wheel housing or toe box, ensures pallet entry and exit can occur without the need for wearable rollers.

48-VOLT LITHIUM-ION BATTERY POWER OUTPUT

The Lithium-Ion 48-Volt battery provides the same power-output all the way through the charge cycle — giving the operator the same power during the first 10% of the charge as the last 10% as well as surpassing the truck charge power from similar lead-acid batteries.

ELECTRICAL COMPONENTRY

The water-resistant connectors and shrouded wiring harness supply power reliably to key components. The WPL40 system includes a key switch, emergency power disconnect, and onboard dock for Easy Exchange Battery.

SERVICEABILITY

The removable covers and the modular design of the WPL40’s components provide for easy maintenance with simple hand tools. And the two-piece drive wheel reduces the complexity of tire changes.

GEAR TECHNOLOGY

The state-of-the-art optimized gear technology supplies advantages such as low noise level, high efficiency, and high performance.

MAINTENANCE

The fully adjustable pull rods and torsion bar extends the WPL40 operating life in delivery truck and dock use applications. The WPL40 goes further with easily accessible grease zerks for easier maintenance.

CLARK S-Series Nominated for IFOY 2019

CLARK IFOY 2019Ismaning near Munich, 14.1.2019. The finalists for this year’s IFOY AWARD (International Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year) are nominated. From the pool of applicants for the seventh round of the world-renowned award the jury will send 15 products and solutions from a dozen manufacturers into the race for the best products and solutions of the year.

The competition will soon enter its second round: The finalists have to undergo the IFOY audit at the international IFOY TEST DAYS at the beginning of March at the IFOY partner CeMAT’s exhibition grounds in Hannover (Germany). In the IFOY Test experts measure the key figures of the finalists in a standardized procedure. In the IFOY Innovation Check renowned scientist assess the innovation value of the nominated products and solutions. This is carried out by specialists from the Dortmund Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML), the Chair for Technical Logistics at the University of Dresden, the Chair for Materials Handling, Material Flow and Logistics (fml) at the Technical University of Munich and the Chair for Machine Elements and Technical Logistics at the Helmut Schmidt University in Hamburg.

As a highlight of the IFOY TEST DAYS jurors from all over Europe, Australia, Brazil, Russia and the US will travel to Hannover to inspect and test the nominated equipment. Among other things the innovation value, technology, design, ergonomics and handling, safety, marketability and customer benefit as well as economy and sustainability will be evaluated. The jury consists of 29 renowned journalists from leading logistics media in 19 countries.

“A golden rule of the IFOY test series is: The finalists are not compared with each other in their respective categories but with their rival trucks or machines on the market. Only those nominees who outperform their direct competitors in terms of innovation have a chance of winning the trophy,” explains Anita Würmser, chairwoman of the IFOY jury.

The trophies will be awarded on April 26 2019. As the IFOY organisation already announced in 2018 the IFOY AWARD Night will take place for the first time in the Hofburg in the Austrian Capital Vienna. In cooperation with LOGISTIK.Kurier and the Austrian Chamber of Commerce the award ceremony will take place during the gala of the Austrian HERMES Transport.Logistics.Award. More than 600 international guests are expected in the traditional Great Festival Hall in the Hofburg among them leading persons in transport, logistics and intralogistics. Until then the result will remain a secret – for both the finalists and the public.
